Lil' Cats Daycare

During the DFPS investigation it was determined that a caregiver failed to use good judgement when improperly picking up an infant by the shoulders.

Two infant children were observed sleeping in infant sleep sacks covering their arms and hands. This was corrected at inspection when the children were removed from sleep sacks.

1 caregiver file reviewed did not have a valid CPR cerfication available for review. This caregiver was observed supervising children alone. This was corrected at inspection when another caregiver stepped into the classroom.

A caregiver was observed supervising 16 children alone when the specified age of the group was 3 yrs old. This was corrected at the inspection when another caregiver entered to assist.

Upon arrival at the center a 2 year old child was observed in the bathroom alone, unsupervised.

The operation has not completed a fire drill since Jan 19, 2023.

Infant feeding forms are not being maintained each month for children not yet on table food.

There are total of 48 children in care. The operation has two tracking systems. One system only accounted for 31 children. The other system only accounted for 42 children. There were 6 children not accounted for. This was corrected at inspection when all children were signed in.

During lunch, milk was not served until directed to do so. Serving sizes were not correct for the fruit or veggies. One 20 oz can of pineapple chunks and one 14.5 oz can of whole corn were served to feed a total of 20 children. No eating utensils were provided, so children were eating with their hands. There was not enough food provided for seconds.

Bleach and air freshener were on the shelf above the tub in the bathroom. This was moved to a higher shelf during the inspection.

The fire inspection was due 5-22-22, and has not been completed.

It was determined during this investigation that there was a large hole in the laundry room ceiling caused by previous water damage, there was damage to the paneling in the toddler room due to water damage, there was dark discoloration under the caulking in the infant room. The operation has had contractors repair the damage.

A large tree that has rotted and is dead, is adjacent to the play yard and had large chunks of bark falling of and possibly presents a risk of the tree trunk falling and causing injury to children inside and outside of the building. There was paneling observed coming away from the wall and showing signs of splintering and this appears to have been caused by water leaks. A window right below this paneling has dark substance that appears to be mold.
